VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There is now a wind warning as well as a rainfall warning up for Metro Vancouver along with a snowfall warning for Whistler.

Expect up to 50 millimetres of rain tonight and strong wind gusts this evening.

David Jones with Environment Canada says the wind will really pick up tomorrow afternoon. “We expect the northwest winds, by say late tomorrow afternoon around Metro Vancouver, to be gusting of up around 90 kilometres per hour. That would be late in the afternoon on Saturday.”

Jones says places exposed to the Straight of Georgia, like Tsawwassen, Richmond, Point Atkinson will likely feel the wind the most, and Washington State could see an even stronger storm than the Lower Mainland.

The height of the storm will be late tomorrow and into the early evening. The daytime temperature will stay steady near 7 degrees.

On Sunday it’s easing to clouds cloudy but we will have a with 60 percent chance of showers and a high of 6 degrees.

BC Ferries already anticipating some cancellations

If you’re planning on taking a ferry tomorrow, expect some changes to different routes operated by BC Ferries thanks to the wind.

Darin Guinette with the ferry corporation says a variety of factors like sea swells, tides, the wind all come into play they make decisions to cancel sailings.

He says it’s never a tough decision when passenger safety comes into question. “Right around the terminals, whether you’re docking or leaving, this is when there’s potential for the most danger. Out in the middle of the water, if you’re getting tossed around it can be very uncomfortable, but you’re going to typically run into much.”
