METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Your disposable mops, dental floss and hair do not belong in the toilet, so stop flushing them down there!
Metro Vancouver is worried about how items like those keep blocking up our sewer system and hurting our environment!
The items don’t break down like toilet paper does; that means crews are called on a lot more often sort out your mess says Manager Fred Nenninger. “On our system, we’re probably out there, in some places, several times a month.”
Baby wipes are at the top of the list.
“The wipes don’t break down; they can get caught up in sewage pumps, in particular,” says Nenninger.
The number two issue (no, not that number two): disposable cloths.
Nenninger isn’t sure exactly how much these items cost taxpayers every year.
