Iconic Empress Hotel gets first BC owner

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The historic Empress Hotel in Victoria has been sold and for the first time it has a local owner.

The buyers are well-known local developers Nat Bosa and his wife and Asset Manager Stephen Halliday says they’ve had their eye on the iconic property for a few months.

It will stay a Fairmont but changes are expected. “All for the better, it won’t be drastic right away, it will take time. Because this is a very very special asset, it’s historic, it’s landmark, it’s iconic and we want to carefully study what’s best for the hotel,” explains Halliday.

It’s Bosa’s first hotel venture.

“This is a hotel that both he and his wife looked at and fell in love with and decided this is for them and this is a hotel for the legacy of the Bosa family.”

The deal was completed by commercial real estate firm Cushman and Wakefield, with the property being purchased from Ivanhoe Cambridge.

“The team here at the hotel are ecstatic and the general manager is leading this group of 500 people. This is just a very special day for the employees and I would think for British Columbia to have Mr. and Mrs. Bosa buy this beautiful property.”
