Long weekends mean a slower pace at work

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Many of you may be trying to get out of dodge for this pseudo Canada Day long weekend and that means productivity at the office may be a bit of a disaster according to one recruiting firm.

Ashleigh Dumulder with the Robert Half firm says the bad news is a lot of people are around so many offices will be running on a skeleton crew but the upshot is that it gives folks a chance to re-energize.

The rules are a bit different for those at the office. “As a leader I would be looking for other people to step up and maybe delegate some duties and see how they respond over the course of the next five or six days,” says Dumulder.

She explains that it may be a good opportunity to show off to management, but it could also raise the stress level. “I think that’s all in the environment we create and certainly you are a team and hopefully we get everyone contributing and covering off at different times because, of course, not everyone has scheduled all their vacation at the same time. So, we need to, as leaders and employers, manage our calendars in making sure there is adequate coverage and it is spread throughout the year.”

Dumulder has heard from some people who are off until July 7th.

She adds another distraction playing a factor at the office right now is the World Cup.
