VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vision Vancouver plans to keep its eye on the growing technology sector.
Mayor Gregor Robertson has released the party’s four-year economic plan.
He says if Vancouver wants to play on the world stage, the tech sector is the way to do that.
“Six years ago, people weren’t talking about Microsoft, Amazon, Sony Image Works, Hootsuite. We’ve seen an incredible growth in local tech companies and some of the big players, globally, coming to Vancouver.”
“That’s where we’re seeing massive job growth. We have focus the limited resources we have. We want to attract jobs from all over the world to Vancouver and technology is our best ticket to do that right now,” Robertson adds.
He is also promising to continue strengthening local businesses and in addition to growing the technology sector, also building on tourism and digital media.
The NPA is firing back at Robertson’s economic plan, saying it’s too narrowly focused.
Mayoral candidate Kirk LaPointe says the four-year plan ignores resource sectors, which he says have historically generated jobs and prosperity for the city.
LaPointe also questions how Robertson can claim the economy has done well during his time in office when families are struggling to afford buying their first home.
