VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Investigators with Vancouver Fire have now determined that massive fire in the city’s Chinatown area was caused accidentally during re-roofing operations.
No one was hurt.
The three-alarm blaze started around noon on Tuesday and when crews arrived they were inundated with large amounts of smoke. The building was evacuated as firefighters tackled the blaze from inside and outside.
However, just minutes after arriving on the scene, all crew members were pulled from the building because the structure’s roof began to give way, with a partial collapse shortly after.
Roughly 60 firefighters were called to the scene and the flames were contained to the building. Neighbouring structures did suffer some smoke, heat and water damage.
The restaurant that caught on fire will be demolished.
