VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man who was beaten unconscious during a robbery six months ago is still recovering in the hospital with life-altering injuries.
It happened at his East Vancouver apartment on November 11th, 2014; he suffered severe head and facial trauma.
“He was released from hospital, but was readmitted after he aspirated again. He will probably never fully recover,” says Constable Brian Montague.
The suspect stole several items from his home and took off.
Investigators believe the attacker was responding to an ad on Craigslist, where the 59-year-old victim put some inexpensive jewellery up for sale. But police say the ads were unclear and the suspect may have believed the jewellery was valuable.
The suspect is described as white, in his late 20s, five-foot-nine, with a medium build.
He was wearing:
– black baseball hat with green brim and yellow “DC”logo
– dark jacket with grey hoody underneath
– black track pants with thick white stripe down the side
– white runners with black laces, carrying an empty brown bag
The Vancouver Police Department says you can meet at their location on Cambie Street to complete a Craigslist sale, since it’s safer than meeting in your home. If that isn’t an option, meeting in an open, crowded public place is the next best thing and they recommend you bring a friend along with you.
Police say the victim gave them permission to share his photo to serve as a warning for others to be careful when they are buying and selling items online.
If you have any information about the attack, you’re asked to call the VPD Robbery Unit at (604) 717 2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
