VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You’re seeing more people on two wheels, but how cycling-friendly is Vancouver? A new European report looks at the world’s most bike-friendly cities and shows that Vancouver isn’t doing so well.
The Copenhagenize Design Company Index of the Most Bike-Friendly Cities ranks Vancouver 46 out of 122 places around the globe.
Erin O’Melinn with HUB: Your Cycling Connection says that’s no surprise given we’re still catching up.
“Some of those highest ranking cities have been investing for many years and many are seeing really high percentages of people taking bikes, because it’s very convenient, it’s very safe and it’s part of their lifestyle.”
She says we’re making a lot of progess but of course there’s more work to be done.
“Things like public bike share which will help get a lot more people on bicycles, and it’s important along with the infrastructure that we’re adding to make sure that we’re educating people.”
Montreal is the only other Canadian city which outranks Vancouver at the 20th spot. Copenhagen is number one.
