SURREY (NEWS 1130) – When traffic is busy it’s difficult to plot out the fastest way from A to B, but in Surrey figuring that out should soon be a bit easier.
That city is installing digital signs which provide estimated travel times.
“We will have travel time information on our major corridors, so commuters can make travel choices along these corridors,” says traffic signal team lead Amer Afridi with the City of Surrey.
It works using Bluetooth technology and the light up digital signs are set to be installed on major routes like King George Boulevard, 152nd Street and other major corridors, displaying estimated travel times in real time.
“We would like to improve the travel times and the ability for drivers to make informed driving choices,” says Afridi.
Afridi notes the aim is to install these signs by December 2017.
The city and the federal government will split the $2-million bill.
