Murder charges laid in Nicholas Hannon’s death

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Murder charges have been laid against three men in connection with a homicide in Langley last year.

Nicholas Hannon, 19, vanished on February 26, 2014. The next day, his car was found abandoned in Derby Reach Park in Fort Langley.

“While we can’t get into specifics — the details of this file, the evidence or the motive — we believe that this was as a result of conflict which turned violent and, ultimately, deadly,” says Staff Sergeant Jennifer Pound with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Police have recovered the victim’s body from a wooded area in Mission.

“Until this weekend, my family maintained the glimmer of hope that just maybe, Nick would come barging through the front door and shout, ‘I’m home!’ Now we know that’ll never happen,” said his father Craig, who spoke with reporters today as police announced the charges.

“Nicholas James Hannon was a great son. He had a smile that would light up a room. Now, the room won’t be so bright. We miss him dearly.”

“Never again will he laughingly piggy-back his beautiful niece up and down the stairs and all around the house. Never again will I be able to hug him and say ‘I love you, buddy,'” he added.

He says his family knows the three accused.

“We are devastated and we feel betrayed. Three young men who were welcomed in our home on many, many occasions have been charged to the highest degree, [accused of] taking the life of a wonderful brother, a loving uncle, and an incredible son.”

The men — all in their twenties — have been charged with first-degree murder. Bradley Flaherty, Keith Tankard and Connor Campbell are expected in court today.
