Chevron overcharges some customers after fuel mix-up

By

VANCOUVER(NEWS 1130)- There has been a fuel mix-up at 56 Chevron gas stations in BC, many of those in Metro Vancouver.

The oil giant says it has been unintentionally selling a lower octane fuel as premium gas since Tuesday.

Adrien Byrne with Chevron explains where the error was made:

“When the refinery transferred the fuel to our distribution terminal in Burnaby. That’s where we mistakenly accepted 87 octane fuel which we mistook for 94 octane before distributing to our retail sites,” he says.

Chevron has stopped selling premium gas until the problem is resolved. Byrne says they’re working on a full list of stations affected.

People filling up at Georgia and Bidwell Streets in Downtown Vancouver are surprised there is no indication why premium gas isn’t available today.

Mitch says you assume you get what you’re paying for. “You don’t usually think about it. You’d think it’d be on their end, that they should be alright. But I guess for people paying that price, there should be some kind of bounce-back for them.”

If you’re concerned about the quality of your gas, a customer hot-line is being established with more details to be found soon at Chevron.ca.

In a Chevron mix-up, "regular" was sold as "premium" at dozens of stations.
