Sedins assisting Surrey kids with after-school program

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – The NHL is just finishing their offseason, but the work for the Sedin twins continued.

The Sedin Family Foundation partnered to create an after-school program.

It’s called Clubhouse 36 and it’s for three schools in Surrey.

Assistant Superintendent Pat Horstead says the program is meant to give at-risk kids something to do. “These programs are life-changing for many of these children,” she says. “Some of the kids said things like ‘It was just wonderful to have a place to be’ and one of the children said ‘The program really taught me to believe in myself’.”

“These children don’t have the extended learning opportunities, don’t develop the passions, don’t have the opportunity to engage in new interests and aren’t always in a place of safety.”

Horstead says the program is designed to teach leadership and work ethic.
