VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The City of Vancouver is bringing in a free Wi-Fi network for people around the city but one expert says it’s a little late.
So many other major cities around the world already offer free wifi.
SFU Communications Professor Peter Chow White says Burnaby has it and he uses the service all the time.
“It’s an important public good, I think is what we’re seeing here, is that instead of seeing it as something that you need to pay for, or corporations need to mediate, governments are seeing Internet access as a public good, not too dissimilar from roads or health care access or things like that.”
The City of Vancouver is starting out with six locations and eventually that will grow to 37.
The first six City locations to have free public Wi-Fi available are:
- Mount Pleasant Community Centre
- Champlain Heights Community Centre
- Coal Harbour Community Centre
- Roundhouse Community Centre
- Langara Golf Course Club House
- Fraserview Golf Course Club House
To connect to #VanWiFi at these locations:
