Lions’ playoff push continues against Argonauts

By

TORONTO (NEWS 1130) – The Lions are trying to stay in the postseason race in Toronto this afternoon. The Leos are in a tight battle with Montreal and Winnipeg for the final playoff spot in the Western Division, while the Argonauts have already clinched a playoff spot and are playing for home field advantage.

The Lions are hoping to capitalize on a Argos team that has dropped two straight games. Toronto was outscored 61-17 in those games, but help is on the way, with Ricky Ray making his first start in just under a calendar year after dealing with shoulder surgery.

Lions Head Coach Jeff Tedford says his team will be ready for the veteran quarterback.

“In film study, you look at the first time you played him and the opponents they have played since then. Even though it was a long time ago, we still will look at it, whether it be for new systems of personnel, so you will always take a look at that.”

Jonathon Jennings remains under center for the Lions and the rookie quarterback expects the Argonauts defence will be out to prove a point.

“They are not giving up too many big plays. They are trying to keep everything in front of them and keep everything pretty simple. They are pretty good at it. They are a good team. They have done a lot of good things this season, but I think we just have to attack and take what they give us.”

Even with Travis Lulay healthy, Jennings has grabbed the starting role with strong play over the last five weeks. He has 13-touchdowns in his last five starts.

He says the entire team is feeling good. “We are feeling very confident. We believe we have a very good team. We are confident in each other and will head out there and get business done.”

The Argonauts will be playing in the Rogers Centre for the first time in 49-days, displaced by the playoff run of the Toronto Blue Jays.

In their one previous meeting this season, the Argos defeated the Lions 30-27 at BC Place in July.

Today’s kick off is at 4 p.m.
