BC Hydro critic unsatisfied with website

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — For those able to access the internet during Tuesday’s wind storm, browsers may have run into a bit of trouble getting information from BC Hydro’s website.

Still, criticism of the utility was dampened from the response seen during massive power outages in August when the website had a complete shutdown.

Even the NDP’s BC Hyrdo critic, Adrian Dix said, “there is much better access to information about key issues than in the previous storm.”

The Vancouver-Kingsway MLA said rate-payers shouldn’t be satisfied though.

“Many of their projects are as much as 400 per cent over budget, including website projects. So we’ve paid handsomely for websites to work when they’re needed and these are the occasions they’re needed.”

Mora Scott, a BC Hydro spokesperson, said the outage portion of the website was working as it should Tuesday.

“We did temporarily disable some of the functionalities of our website just so that we could ensure that our customers are going to continue to get the power outage information that they were looking for,” Scott said.

She said the decision to go to simpler website functions was made after the wind storm moved over the North Shore over the dinner hour.
