VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A big change is coming for anyone who takes public transit.
On January 1st, monthly passes will need to be loaded on the new Compass Cards.
Jennifer Morland with TransLink says thousands of people are already catching on to the new system.
“There have been about 18,000 customers that have already gotten their Compass Card monthly pass for January and that’s more than double what we saw for December monthly passes.”
Morland admits it will be difficult for riders to change their behaviours with the new tap in, tap out card but extra staff will be available to anyone who needs a little extra help come the new year.
Passengers will have to tap the card when they get on transit and tap out when they’re done.
Morland says they will keep one SkyTrain gate open for people who use faresavers.
