VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A daily passenger ferry is expected to be ready to sail by the summer, going between Vancouver and Victoria.
The ferry will take about 3.5 hours, with service from Vancouver’s Harbour Flight Centre in the morning and Victoria’s Inner Harbour in the afternoon.
“Not targeting the business or commuter travel but the tourist who wants an experience when they’re travelling between Vancouver and Victoria and that’s what this operator is hoping to achieve,” explains Greater Victoria Harbour Authority CEO Ian Robertson.
He says the catamaran is on its way to Victoria to be retrofitted and will handle as many as 300 passengers.
Australian based Riverside Marine has signed a lease agreement to use office space at the CPR Steamship Terminal building in Victoria, along with a water lot on the harbour.
Riverside Marine tells NEWS 1130 it hasn’t figured out final ticket pricing yet but it thinks a one-way journey could cost around $80.
This is not the first time a company has tried a passenger service like this but Robertson says Riverside Marine has been very successful in Australia with a similar model.
“And quite frankly we believe they have the understanding and the knowledge to get this right,” he adds.
