The Railway Club is shutting down

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver’s Railway Club is closing, effective immediately.

The owners of the iconic live music venue made the announcement on Facebook today.

The posted statement put the blame squarely on the high rent at the club’s downtown Vancouver location.

Evan Kelly with local ska band The Brass Action has been playing at the iconic venue for over 20 years.

“We knew it was for sale and we were just hoping that someone would take it over and keep it going but I guess that is not to be. As a band, we are all a bit down about this and I’m sure we are not the only ones. I think there is a whole music scene in Vancouver that will be affected by this.”

“I just hope that whatever happens to that space next that they respect the history and the uniqueness of that room and that they can keep live music playing there in some capacity,” he adds.

The social media statement referenced the impact the closure will have on the cultural scene in the city and thanked the staff, customers, and performers.
