Rogers to launch Sportsnet streaming service

By

TORONTO, ON. (NEWS 1130) – It’s being called the first ever direct-to-consumer sports service ever.

Rogers Media, the parent company of NEWS 1130, is taking a big swing at the streaming game.

On Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays broadcaster will launch Sportsnet Now — a new direct-to-consumer live streaming service.

Canadians will no longer have to subscribe to a cable package to watch all the content available on the six Sportsnet television channels, but you’ll still have to pay.

For $24.99 a month, viewers can stream all Sportsnet content online, on tablets or other mobile devices.

The move is similar to HBO Now in the US, which costs Americans $14.99 a month.

There will be no contract for Sportsnet Now, and there will be a seven-day trial period.
