Outdoor/indoor pool controversy in Aldergrove

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) — Feeling ignored, a group in Langley is pleading with their Township council to change plans for an outdoor pool in Aldergrove to an indoor one.
Cathy Dunn says consultations in the community have been clear; they want something that can be used year-round.
“I don’t know too many people who would desire swimming in an outdoor pool year-round in a BC climate,” Dunn says.
“This isn’t what we asked for, this isn’t what we agreed to. You know we’re going to be paying for that for years and we’re going to have this big boondoggle in the middle of our town that isn’t going to be utilized.”
Dunn is worried the 25 metre outdoor lane swim, wave pool and meandering brook also misses on access for people with physical challenges and swimming lessons.
She is touting a 2014 YouTube video of Mayor Jack Froese that indicates a move towards an indoor facility.
In February, Council voted in favour of a canopy roof with lighting and steel columns but did not include walls.
