Repeat offender arrested after carjacking in Abbotsford: police

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after an alleged carjacking Tuesday evening, the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) says.
Officers say they were called to Livingstone Avenue near Fraser Highway around 10 p.m. after reports of a woman having her vehicle stolen at knifepoint.
“Although understandably shaken by the incident, she was not physically injured,” AbbyPD said in a post on social media.
Police say they located the stolen vehicle on Clearbrook Road near Highway 1. They conducted a vehicle stop and arrested the suspect.
The man is a known repeat offender and has been charged with robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, the post says.
“AbbyPD understands the community’s concerns regarding repeat offenders and the impact these incidents can have on public safety,” it said.
“AbbyPD officers remain committed to addressing these concerns through targeted enforcement initiatives, specialized operations, and intelligence-led policing strategies focused on reducing crime and enhancing community safety.”
Police say the suspect’s bail hearing was scheduled for Wednesday.
