CHANHASSEN, Minn. – Pop music superstar Prince has passed away. His publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, says the music icon was found dead at his home in Chanhassen.

The singer, songwriter, arranger and instrumentalist was widely acclaimed as one of the most inventive musicians of his era, drawing upon influences ranging from James Brown to the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix.

“He climbed the charts immediately. He was a child prodigy. He learned at an early age to play 25 or 27 different instruments and he was just destined to be a star right from the beginning. The records he put out, he did some acting at the beginning. He did it all,” says JACK FM‘s Terry Chan.

“He didn’t actually have a huge, huge slew of hits through his entire career but he was always respected because he was always the consummate artist. For the last 15 years, he has done it his own way.”

His hits included “Little Red Corvette,” ”Let’s Go Crazy” and ”When Doves Cry.”

The Minneapolis native broke through in the late 1970s and soared over the following decade with such albums as “1999” and “Purple Rain.”

Prince was 57.
