Vancouver designates 25 ‘disaster support hubs’

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Do you know where to go for help in the aftermath of an earthquake?

The City of Vancouver has designated 25 locations for people to go to support each other after a serious quake hits.

“They can do a meet there with family and other organizations, share information, and share supplies and resources — and ultimately, coordinate efforts between the different [aspects of] the community,” says Daniel Stevens with the City of Vancouver.

“After a major disaster strikes, neighbourhoods and communities that organize to help and support each other are often the first to recover,” he adds.

The city says the sites were chosen because they are at or near areas where people can gather safely outside if buildings are damaged, and are also places staff and volunteers will be able to provide post-disaster support.

They are marked with yellow signs (see map below)
