VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Tragically Hip shows across Canada sold out in less than a minute yesterday, but a lot of fans are still set on going. The Better Business Bureau is out with a warning for people looking to buy re-sell.
Tickets for the two Vancouver shows in July are now selling online for anywhere between $250 to well past a thousand bucks.
The Better Business Bureau’s Evan Kelly says part of the problem is that there is a lot of emotion wrapped up in these shows. “You know we have got limited shows, you have got a dying Canadian icon and a country of fans who regard the band as something that sort of defines Canadians in a way, and this is generating this kind of demand that scammers like to see.”
“Canadians obviously have a big connection to this band and Gord Downie in particular, so when we see big names come we often see these fake tickets scams making the rounds on Craigslist so this is that perfect storm for ticket scams I think.”
He says if you do buy scalped seats – you should never wire money to someone you don’t know and make sure you see the tickets before you pay. H also recommends taking the Vancouver Police up on their offer to use their headquarters as a meeting place to buy tickets, or use eBay where you can check the sellers reviews before committing.
