WHISTLER (NEWS 1130) – If paying money to crawl through mud sounds like fun, there’s an event for you in Whistler, this weekend.
Tough Mudder is a nearly 20 kilometre long obstacle course.
Crawling under barbed wire, swimming through ice water–some of the familiar obstacles are back this year.
“Everest, Funky Monkey, Arctic Enema, the Ice Bath, and of course electroshock therapy, the finisher obstacle for the Tough Mudder, there,” says Barry Shaw, the event director for Tough Mudder Whistler, who adds a few new challenges are making their debut.
“King of the Swingers is coming up to Whistler this year, as is a brand new obstacle called the Block Ness Monster.”
Shaw says more than 10,000 people have signed up.
“Figures around 12,000, 13,000 in the past. You know, still in the ball park, but under what we’ve seen historically. Based on the size of this event, I wouldn’t be surprised if the total economic impact is somewhere around 5 or 6 million dollars.”
Tough Mudder takes place Saturday and Sunday in Whistler.
