BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Burnaby’s École Alpha Secondary is getting some major seismic upgrades. Gyms, classrooms, and other parts of the school will all be updated.
The improvements will also increase the capacity of the school from 1,025 to 1,100 students.
MLA for Burnaby North Richard Lee calls this a new beginning for the school. “This important project is part of our commitment to ensuring schools are structurally safe from earthquakes. Like the students, parents and teachers at Alpha, I look forward to the improvements when the project is complete.”
The project has a price tag of $27-million with the provincial government contributing $26.6 million and the Burnaby school district contributing $566,000.
Construction is expected to be completed in the fall 2018.
