How do you feel about BC?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A poll by Insights West shows people in BC love their province – but some of the numbers are sliding just a bit.

While 87 per cent of us are proud to be from BC, only 56 per cent think that their children will continue to live here in the years to come.

Mario Canseco with Insights West says that’s down a full ten points over previous polls. “A lot of people in the north were concerned about jobs in the LNG industry that haven’t really materialized yet and in the Lower Mainland, it is definitely related to real estate. There are a lot of baby boomers out there that are concerned that their children are not going to buy able to buy a house.”

Canseco believes geography sets us apart from the rest of Canada. “There is also this sense of connection with the West Coast and we it with the fact that three in five BC residents believe that they have more in common with the people of Seattle and Portland than they do with the people of Montreal and Toronto.

Almost two-thirds of people think that our views here in BC are different than the rest of Canada – and one in 10 think we might be better off as our own country.
