VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Do you remember that first time you walked into an arcade and saw that glowing, clinking machine with the little silver ball?
The Holiday Inn Downtown will be lit up like a penny arcade this weekend thanks to the Vancouver FlipOut PinBall Expo.
Pinball isn’t a thing of the past according to Nitro Amusements owner and Expo founder Tommy Floyd.
“I can’t tell you how many times people actually stumble into the store..and they say, ‘You mean they still make those things?'”
Over 100 machines of all eras and styles will be set to free play.
“We’re going to have the old school electromechanical — those are the kind that [people are] probably more familiar with, with the reels on them and they sound more like bells clanging,” explains Floyd.
“And then you’ve got the solid state, which is more of the 80’s, early, early 90s kind of era. And then you’ve got your dot-matrix display, which is called the modern pinball machine, and that would’ve been most popular in the 90s and right up to present.”
There will also be a tournament room for people with a competitive streak.
“People that are more competitive and want to get involved in aspect can play for money and prizes and stuff.”
There will also be vendors and speakers, including ‘Jersey Jack‘.
