NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – A man found guilty of driving drunk and killing two women in Coquitlam more than five years ago is dropping the appeal of his conviction.
Lorraine Cruz and Charlene Reaveley were killed on the side of Lougheed Highway in February 2011. Reaveley had pulled over to the side of the road to help Cruz, who was in a previous accident.
Cory Sater was found guilty on several charges in 2014, including impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm.
He was originally given a nine-and-a-half year prison sentence, but the judge later reduced it to seven-and-a-half because Sater has a minor criminal record, and is also a single parent.
During his trial, the court heard Sater drank six double rye-and-Cokes and two Jaegerbombs at a bar before he got behind the wheel.
Cruz’s boyfriend was also badly injured in the crash.
