COLUMBUS (NEWS 1130) – At least eight people are hurt, and one suspect is dead following reports of an active shooter on the Ohio State University campus.
All of the victims have been sent to hospital, and are expected to recover.
The university sent a series of tweets at around 10 a.m. local time this morning telling students to run, hide or fight.
About 90 minutes later, the scene was considered secure, and the shelter-in-place warning had been lifted.
Ohio State police say the attacker purposely drove over a curb into the path of pedestrians, then got out of the vehicle and started stabbing people with a butcher knife.
The suspect was reportedly shot and killed by campus police, and it was those gunshots that led to initial reports of an active shooter on campus.
Classes at the university have been cancelled for the rest of the day.
Ohio State is one of America’s largest universities, with over 60,000 students enrolled.
