Vancouver’s first neighbourhood pub closing

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130)- Today, you can go to any pub to grab a pint, but in the early 70’s, only hotels could serve draft beer in what was essentially a monopoly.

Vancouver’s first neighbourhood pub is closing.

The Dover Arms in the West End has been around since 1974 and joins other cherished, long-time local drinking establishments in closing.

One unconfirmed story from many years back has Rod Stewart’s people booking the private back room so he could watch English football.

Walking by on Denman Street and peeking through the windows it always looks busy, especially when there’s a live band or big game on the TV’s.

No word on why the Dover is closing or what will replace it.

According to the West End Business Improvement Association, the 2600 square-foot space is available on May 1st for an estimated rent of more than $21,000-dollars a month.

The final “last call” at the Dover is said to be on April 23rd.
