Floating home capsizes in Richmond

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – A floating home in Richmond has tipped and partially sunk, but it’s unclear what caused it to capsize.

The house is moored at the Riversbend Floating Home Village on Dyke Road, and neighbours say it tipped on Monday morning.

Richard, who lives nearby, says the house was undergoing renovations. He says two workers, one of them possibly the owner, were on the property and managed to escape unharmed.

“Two of the workmen managed to swim out the front door, which is great, thank goodness.”

He said had it not been for some anchors, the house may have completely flipped.

Ropes are now holding the house in place.

But neighbours are also concerned about the debris now floating in the water.

Around a dozen homes are nestled in the marina along the Fraser River just north west of Annacis Island.
