Delta community mourns loss of 14-year-old baseball player

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – A community is mourning the loss of a 14-year-old boy who was rushed to hospital after being injured at home on Sunday.

Kyle Losse was a baseball star who played for the Triple-A Delta Tigers.

His coach, Cam Frick, says the boy was loved by his teammates and coaches.

“It’s been a tough couple days for us, and I can’t imagine what the Losse family is going through right now,” he tells NEWS 1130. “It came as a shock to all of us, it’s still kind of putting all the pieces together as to what happened but we found out, or I found out, Monday night about halfway through our regular practice time.”

A counselling session for Kyle’s teammates was set up to help the youngsters cope with the news.

“Thought it was important for many of these kids –13, 14 years old– this is the first time they’ve ever dealt with something like this and we just felt that it was important to get some experts in to kind of help them through this process.”

Frick remembers Kyle as a passionate and confident player. “He had the type of skill and passion for the game that when he stepped on the field everybody took notice, everybody knew he was there.”

The Tigers’ coach believes it’s important his players know supports are in place, and that no one has to greive alone.

“We wanted them to be there as a team and feel their emotions together. Something like this I don’t think it’s right to deal with it alone, and you know I can kind of see it in their eyes they’re just so shocked.”

A celebration of life has been planned for Kyle this Sunday at the baseball field where his team plays in Tsawwassen. Coaches and players plan to come to the ceremony in uniform.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Losse family.
