NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – If you just can’t get enough of eight-bit sound and chunky, blocky graphics, have we got an event for you.
There’s a huge video game convention this weekend in New Westminster that won’t be featuring the latest and greatest in video game wizardry.
The Vancouver Retro Gaming Expo is taking place Saturday and Show Director Brian Hughes says it’s a great event.
“We’ve got two different panel rooms. We’ve got two tournament rooms. We’ve got guests, we’ve got bands performing, we’ve got comedians doing retro game theme comedy and tons of free play gaming.”
He adds the event isn’t just for middle-aged gamers hoping to take a trip back in time.
“I think a lot of it is people on YouTube, people online that are keeping the retro games going so the younger generations are starting to discover them now.”
Hughes says right now there’s a lot of focus on the 1990s. “Tends to be between the Nintendo and the N64 with the Super
Nintendo in the middle — that whole era seems to be the big thing right now.”
The expo is at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
