You’ll soon hear Seth Rogen on Metro Vancouver SkyTrains, buses

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – From the big screen to the speakers of TransLink — a well-known comedian from Vancouver has been announced as the next guest voice for bus and SkyTrain announcements.

That voice belongs to none other than Seth Rogen.

“Any opportunity to enrich the lives of the Canadian people is an opportunity I will take,” Rogen says in a video posted to Twitter, ending with his iconic laugh.

In a statement, TransLink VP of Customer Communications and Public Affairs Steve Vanagas say he is pleased to announce the partnership, “to promote transit ridership and improve the customer experience while using Vancouver’s growing transit system.”

TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond says Rogen has been “terrific” to work with, and calls him “home grown”.

“We really commend, he’s a great guy, he’s been terrific to work with,” Desmond says. “For an actor in Hollywood to come back home and be able to lend some time to our system is, I think, a great testament to his sense of community and I think it’s great for our system.”

The announcements will be rolled out over the next few weeks, and will run for a limited time.

As a user of Vancouver transit, Rogen says he’s taken public transit his whole life — even to this day, when he comes to visit.

“I do take the Canada Line all the time. I go to the Richmond Night Market a lot and parking there is incredibly difficult, and I live downtown so there’s a lot of stops nearby.”

In May, Morgan Freeman had lent his voice to TransLink to help promote the new tap-to-pay credit card system.

TransLink scrapped the planned announcements shortly after they were announced, following reports that several women accused Freeman of inappropriate behaviour.

In the wake of the allegations, a local reporter suggested Rogen as the next voice on Twitter, to which he replied with “Yo if they need a replacement now let me know.”

TransLink quickly reached out, asking him to send them a direct message.

Rogen has even offered to do this all for free.

“To have somebody out there that has different credibility with the public or different elements to the public that can talk about the value of a public transit system and talk about things like etiquette and courtesy, and you know keep your backpack off the seat so somebody can sit down; people listen to that, because it’s fun, it’s interesting and it’s sort of third party validation. So I think it’s great to have a voice and a recognizable voice and a fun voice to help be the voice of our system and talk to our customers about how to use the system.”
