Busy traffic day ahead as long weekend wraps up

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – As with any long weekend, more people are out and about on the roads travelling to and from their mini-getaways.

As the B.C. Day weekend wraps up, hundreds of people will be returning from trips to the states, the Okanagan, and visitors here for the fireworks and Pride festivities will be heading home as well.

Adding to the traffic on the Coquihalla and Highway 1 today is country-music enthusiasts returning from Merritt’s Rockin’ River Musicfest.

The Sea to Sky will be another busy route today. Southbound traffic has been slow through Squamish to Britannia Beach for most of the day.

It’s been a busy day for BC ferries as well. Expect a one to two sailing wait for most of the ferries from the Island to Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay.

And if you’re headed to the border, pack your patience. There weren’t too many major delays this morning but that is likely to change as is gets later in the day and more people begin their journeys home.

Local police have sent out reminders this weekend to drive say and make sure you’re well rested before hitting the road.
