Five injured in plane incident at YXX after Abbotsford Airshow

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – Five people have been rushed to the hospital tonight after a plane crash at the Abbotsford Airport. One person is in critical conditions, another in serious, and the other three are stable.

The Abbotsford Airshow says that shortly after 5:30 p.m.–after the show had wrapped up for the day–the 1930s-era deHaviland Dragon Rapide biplane carrying the pilot and four passengers crashed shortly after takeoff. The plane was operated by a museum taking part in the show, offering member flights.

A listener told us there were a lot of different emergency crews on the scene at the height of it all, and said the plane was sitting at an angle with its nose in the ground and its tail in the air.

The Transportation Safety Board will be taking over the investigation into what happened.

Commercial flights in and out of the were held at their origin during the incident, but the airport will be open again at 9 p.m. and flights will resume. The airshow is also expected to proceed as scheduled tomorrow.
