Long weekend border waits: when to cross, according to Drive B.C. data

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If driving into the United States is part of your long weekend travel plan, you might end up stuck in a pretty sizable wait.

However, fear not! Some Drive B.C. data from last year could help save you some time.

Apparently, noon on Saturday might not be the best time to make a crossing this Labour Day weekend — at least that was the case in 2017.

People were waiting an average of nearly an hour and a half.

Historical data from last year shows the longest southbound wait times a the Peace Arch started to climb at around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, and didn’t drop off until nearly 3 in the afternoon.

Meantime, Pac Highway waits were basically the same story heading into the U.S.

You may not have to endure waits as long if you try and sneak toward the border early in the morning or later in the afternoon. But, if you do find yourself facing some lengthy waits, try the Valley crossings, which saw fewer delays.

In terms of your trip back home to the Great White North, Sunday and holiday Monday delays northbound were not as bad.
