Elderly couple dead after train hits car in Langley

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) — Langley RCMP confirms an elderly couple is dead after a CN train hit a car in Langley Sunday morning.

Staff Sgt. David Brown says it’s not clear why the car was on the tracks near Glover Road and the Langley Bypass, where the crossing, he says, is well marked.

“The vehicle was struck by the west-bound train and it was pushed for some distance,” Brown says. “When our members got to the vehicle, we found two elderly persons that were in medical distress. Life-saving efforts were not successful.”

A statement by CN says the crossing has lights and gates to warn people of on-coming trains and that the company is assisting the RCMP in its investigation to find out what exactly happened. It had no further comment.
