Teen seriously hurt, man arrested after collision, shooting in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A 17-year-old boy is in the hospital with serious injuries and a man is under arrest after a late night shooting in Surrey.
“At approximately 11:15 p.m., the Surrey RCMP received a call from a male who advised that his brother had been shot and they were en route to Surrey Memorial Hospital. We attended and did locate one male who was suffering from a gunshot wound,” RCMP S/Sgt. Duane Honeyman said.
He says shortly after that, 9-1-1 calls came in, reporting shots fired on Prince Charles Blvd. near 96 Ave. “Members did attend to that location as well, and located what appeared to be the scene of the shooting.”
Police believe a light-coloured Jeep Wrangler hit a grey Toyota Sienna and then the driver of the Jeep fired a shot into the Sienna. That apparently happened in the parking lot of a townhouse complex.
Investigators are still looking into whether this was a one-off incident “or if there is more to the events.”
The teen has serious but non-life threatening injuries. Transit Police later found the Jeep and arrested the driver.
Mounties believe this was a targeted shooting, but don’t think it was linked to gang conflict or drug trafficking in the Lower Mainland.
“At this point in time, we don’t see any risk to the general public,” Honeyman said.
There’s no word on a motive at this time.
