Titanic artifact exhibit leaves Richmond

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — An exhibition that allowed visitors to see up-close some of the items recovered from the Titanic has left Richmond.
“Titanic: the Artifact Exhibition” had been in the Lower Mainland since last June. Filled with real artifacts recovered from the bottom of the ocean, organizers say a couple hundred people explored the exhibit each day. Canadian money, plates, and jewelry, which were all on board the ship when it sank, were among the items visitors got a chance to see.
Maria Argueta with Lipont Place says some even left feeling emotional, particularly those who grew up hearing stories about tragedy. Some visitors were even descendants of people who were onboard when it sank.
“Like a great grandfather that was on the Titanic and survived,” she says. “They actually point to their name on the wall, and they feel like they’re attached somehow to what they just saw.”
Argueta says the fan favourite was a side-by-side comparison of the first-class cabin and third-class cabin.
“They see the difference of how much they’re paying, the space, and the decorative styles as well,” she says. “They actually really enjoy just looking at how the ship is coming to life.”
The exhibition wrapped up Friday, and while there’s no solid plans on where to take it next, it might be headed to Phoenix.
