VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The roads are slippery, and snow is causing problems for drivers and transit riders across Metro Vancouver.
One driver calling into NEWS 1130 says some roads in Vancouver are like a “ski hill.” Others are sharing photos of backed up buses on some major routes. Lineups on some major routes are growing longer, with some routes like the 95 B-Line seeing up to an hour delay.
Up to 10 cm of snow is expected in some areas of the region Sunday.
But TransLink says they aren’t expecting there to be any shutdowns as snowfall accumulates. TransLink spokesperson Aliya Mohamed says de-icing trucks were out yesterday preparing trolley wires to prevent them from freezing, and buses on hilly routes on the North Shore and up Burnaby Mountain have access to tire socks to help buses climb steep hills.

“De-icing was done in advance of expecting this weather today. We also have the de-icing trucks on standby, we’ll be able to pull them out if we need to, but, at this juncture there is no freezing across the trolley wires.
“We’re trying to keep the buses moving, but its slippery conditions, slippery weather out there.”
NEWS 1130’s Traffic Anchor William Cook is advising people to give themselves extra time on the roads. He says traffic is slow moving on virtually every major route across Metro Vancouver.
