RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – One person is recovering from smoke inhalation after an early morning industrial fire in Richmond.
The fire lit up the sky Wednesday morning just off of Highway 91 near Nelson Road.
A fuel truck, two other vehicles and an Atco trailer were damaged.
Fire crews could see the flames before they arrived at the scene, luckily their own training facility is located just a few hundred meters from the scene.
Acting Batallion Chief Dave Johnston says one person was hurt at the scene and suffered from smoke inhalation.
He says crews quickly knocked down the fire and then turned their attention to a steady stream of diesel on the ground.
“This is all diesel fuel and water that’s coming out so we’re trying to corral it and keep it in one area so it can be mopped up at a later time,” he adds, noting crews were waiting for some sand to be brought in to help with the cleanup.
The fuel, mixed with water from the firefight, was flowing into a marshy area nearby
