You’ll need winter tires on the Coquihalla Highway for another month

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It may be spring, but don’t get rid of those winter tires just yet, if you’re planning to drive to the B.C. Interior.

The province is reminding you that regulations have been extended to April 30th on certain highways. That means if you’re taking the Coquihalla anytime before the end of next month, you’ll need tires with the mountain-snowflake or mud and snow (M+S) symbol.

Tires need to be in good condition and have a minimum tread depth of 3.5 mm.

The Sea-to-Sky Highway is not included in the winter tire extension. The regulations for that route will be lifted this Sunday.

You’re advised to always check the weather forecast before you head out. You can check DriveBC, which has hundreds of highway webcam views across the province.
