NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A trio of young women who were stuck near the Grouse Grind trail in North Vancouver and have been rescued.
District of North Vancouver Assistant Fire Chief Jeremy Duncan, says the three girls — believed to teenagers — are not injured. They were taking on the BCMC trail, and were not prepared to be up there.
“Their clothing wasn’t appropriate, their shoes weren’t appropriate, they didn’t have any food, water or extra clothing,” he says.
One girl had some bumps and a sore back when she slipped and fell, but otherwise, there were no injuries.
Before heading out on a hike like this, Duncan says it’s important to be prepared.
“It’s the coast, and the weather changes on a dime. It’s rainy and cold as you see right now — it’s probably about 10 degrees colder at the top of the Grind — there’s still snow up there. It’s slushy,” he says. “Even in the dead of summer you should be prepared, but definitely in the shoulder seasons.”

That includes letting people know where you’re going, bringing a backpack and enough food and water, light and heat, and making sure your cellphone is charged.
“We recommend everybody, even though it’s a city trail and park system, part of Metro Vancouver, it’s still the wilderness, and you need to be prepared,” he says.
