VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – 77 Vancouver rats are looking for a new home. Vancouver Animal Services has the rodents up for adoption after a large intake. And they’re hoping you’ll take two.
The city announced on Twitter on Thursday that they have a larger than normal number of rats available for adoption. They’re also the cheapest pets to adopt – while a puppy could cost you $297, the fees for rats are only $5 each.
VAS has newborn and senior rats, males and females, and some are even bonded pairs. They say rats are very social creatures and do best when living with a partner. If a potential adopter already has rats, they’ll consider a single rat adoption.
According to a tweet from the city, rats can be trained to use a toilet, and respond to commands. They also say they’re very friendly and enjoy human companionship.
The shelter also adopts out dogs, rabbits, birds, ferrets, and guinea pigs, if a rat isn’t your style.
