SPCA pleads for information after kittens found in dumpster die

UPDATE: The BC SPCA has identified the person it believes was responsible for abandoning the kittens
VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The BC SPCA needs your help after two newborn kittens were apparently found stuffed inside a plastic bag and abandoned in a dumpster last week.
The two cats — believed to be only one-day-old — died after being taken to an emergency vet to be treated for dehydration and hypothermia.
The SPCA says it was alerted about the kittens by someone walking by the dumpster inside a parking area at 1040 Pacific Street.
“We responded immediately and transported them for emergency care, but sadly they were too weak and compromised to survive,” BC SPCA Senior Officer of Protection and Stakeholder Relations Eileen Drever says in a release.
“This is an absolutely heartbreaking case, where two innocent animals were thrown out like trash to die,” Drever adds.
The SPCA is looking to speak with anyone who may have information about the case.
It is also reminding anyone who feels they can’t take care of an animal to reach out, rather then to resort to something like this.
The bag the kittens were found in, Drever notes, ironically read “Love You.”

Abandoning an animal isn’t just cruel — it’s also against the law. Anyone caught can be prosecuted.
“Animals are not disposable and there is no reason to cause an animal suffer and die in such an unnecessary and inhumane way.”
