IHIT asking for help identifying suspects linked to fatal Surrey shooting

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Homicide investigators are asking for the public’s help identifying two suspects linked to a deadly shooting in Surrey last month.

18-year-old Austin Grewal was shot and killed on April 26 just after 5 p.m. in the area of 176 Street and Abbey Drive in Surrey. A red Chrysler 300 believed to be connected to the shooting was found that night in Maple Ridge.

Corporal Frank Jang says police now have a video showing two men linked to that car, and they’re asking for the public’s help to identify them.

“The video that shows two individuals walking – their faces aren’t clearly seen in the video, but we’re hoping that somebody could see their motions, how they walk, their mannerisms and perhaps could tell us that ‘Yes, I do in fact know who these people are,'” he says.

The first suspect is described as a non-Caucasian male with a skinny build and dark facial hair. He was wearing a light-coloured hoodie. The second suspect is described as shorter than his associate, of unknown ethnicity, skinny, but with no facial hair. He was seen wearing a dark-coloured hoodie with a cap underneath, carrying a bag on his shoulder.

“This new video is another important step in the case and could significantly advance the investigation with information from members of the community,” Jang says. “Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT info line, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.”

Police say the killing was linked to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.
