NANAIMO (NEWS 1130) — An eight-year-old girl in Nanaimo is safe after police say a man may have tried to abduct her on Tuesday.
The girl told officers she was able to fight the man off and get home. Mounties say the girl was approached as she was riding her bike home from school.
The man apparently tried to get her inside his truck, first by asking her if she “wanted to see something” inside, then he tried to grab her.
The girl was able to kick at him, get back on her bike, and peddle home, Mounties say, adding her mother called police to report what had happened as soon as she arrived.

“The young lady did everything she needed to do to remove herself from a dangerous situation and should be proud of her actions,” Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP said in a release.
The suspect is described as a white man with a dark beard and dark hair. He was wearing sunglasses at the time.
The RCMP says the girl wasn’t able to say how old the man appeared to be, or what he was wearing.
He was reportedly seen driving a red pick up truck with a white strip. There’s no word on what make or model the vehicle might be.
