Parking prices set to increase on Canada day

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — It’s not just transit fares going up on Canada Day, parking fees are also set to increase.

TransLink’s Parking Rights Tax Rate will rise from 21 to 24 per cent.

The parking tax is charged when drivers pay for their spots on an hourly, monthly or annual basis. It applies to parkades and parking lots, residential and commerical buildings, and some public insititutions.

There are exemptions, including metered street parking.

TransLink says the increased tax revenue will go towards funding their Phase Two Plan, which includes the Broadway subway and increased bus service throughout the region.
